Twin Turboprop (B350-class)
A twin turboprop with a strong climb: your first aircraft with real weight and momentum.
The Twin Turboprop approximates a business turboprop twin. Two engines, a T-tail and a heavy airframe give it a calm, planted feel and a very strong climb, and it sits comfortably at altitude where the air is smooth.
It is the step where you start to manage energy. Power changes take a moment to show up, and the aircraft keeps its speed when you pull the throttle back.
Key Numbers
- Role: twin turboprop
- Approximates: B350
- Unlocks at: level 4
- Maximum takeoff mass: 6,804 kg
- Stall, landing configuration: 81 kt
- Stall, clean: 96 kt
- Flaps may be used below: 158 kt
- Normal operating limit: 240 kt
- Never exceed: 263 kt
- Rotate at about: 115 kt
- Approach at about: 105 kt
Speeds are indicated airspeed in knots as the simulator models them; the real type is only the thing this aircraft approximates.
How It Flies
- Throttle responds with a short delay (the turbines spool up): move it earlier than you would in a piston aircraft.
- Trim for the climb and for the descent. It rewards you with a steady, hands-off flight.
- On the ground it needs more runway to stop. Use the brakes smoothly and keep it straight.
What To Practise
- Climb to 15,000 feet and notice how little power it needs to stay there.
- Fly a long mission with the autopilot orbit, then take over for the approach.
- Land on a short runway and compare your stopping distance with the trainer's.
