About ChillFlight

What It Is

ChillFlight is a flight simulator for people who want to fly, not to study a manual. It runs in your browser, with nothing to install, and draws the world in crisp low-resolution pixels so it stays smooth on an ordinary laptop. You pick an airport on a world map, climb into an aircraft and fly, with music made for concentrating playing in the background.

It is a game, not a training device: the flight model is tuned to feel right and to be fun, and the data is simplified. Never use it for real navigation.

A Real World, At Real Size

The Earth is modelled at one to one. Terrain comes from open elevation data, thousands of real airports and their runways are in the game, and the sun, the moon and the stars are where they really are at that place and time. Fly from Havana to Miami and the coastline, the keys and the distance are the real ones.

The sky follows the weather over the place you fly: clouds, rain, snow, fog, thunderstorms, day and night. Wind pushes your aircraft, and the sea, the birds and the distant aircraft all react to it.

Six Aircraft To Unlock

You start in a light trainer and unlock the rest by flying: a fast single, a twin turboprop, a regional turboprop, a narrowbody jet and a light business jet. Each one flies differently and has its own instruments. Read the aircraft guides to see how they differ and what to practise with each.

Traffic, Missions And Levels

The aircraft you see around you are simulated: they are not real flights, and the game says so in the Nearby Flights panel. We would like to show the real aircraft that are flying right now, and the code is ready for it, but we have not yet found an open, free source whose terms clearly allow a site like this one. Missions turn a flight into a goal: deliver, land precisely, fly a distance, reach an altitude. You earn experience, achievements and new aircraft, and your progress is saved in your own browser, not on our servers.

Made To Be Left Running

The radio plays procedurally generated music, lo-fi, ambient, jazz and more, made live in your browser. The Minimize button shrinks the game to a small window while the aircraft keeps circling on autopilot, and it calls you back if something needs your attention. Good for working next to it.

Where The Data Comes From

Terrain, airports, coastlines, weather and air traffic all come from open sources, credited on the credits page. The simulator is free and supported by discreet advertising: see the privacy page for how that works.
